The pronunciation given above makes use of the double-case phonemic transcription
system, except that only sharp syllable divisions are shown.
Note that in a nonrhotic dialect the letter r will not be
pronounced, unless followed by a vowel.
Unstressed vowels are often changed into an |a| (schwa) as in |ta da-VAID|,
|AN-TSHAElandzhd| and the suffix -ed: |joo-NAItad|.
Many speakers will replace the unstressed |i| at the end of a word in the
singular with |ee|, and say |OHN-lee| and |la-DZHItamasee|.
(|dhee| instead of |dhi| shows a similar pattern).
The same speakers also tend to replace |o| with |ah| and |O| with |AH|,
as in |ahn|, |STAHP| and |AEna-MAHsatee|.
The first vowel of exist may be an |i| or an |e| and the last
consonant of with may be a |dh| or a |th|.
